The Snow Less Travelled

2021-01-13T18:14:45+00:00

I completely relate to this picture. Southerners are soft folks...soft spoken, soft-hearted and most of all, soft on long cold winters.   We do not weather the weather well.   While our more Southern friends in warmer climes and those from colder places scoff at us for stopping the whole world for a week, over snowy roads on a neighborhood [...]

What Inspires You? I really need to know…

2021-01-13T18:14:45+00:00

If an interior designer, in coordination with other contractors is going to make a client's wishes come true, we have to know where you get your inspiration.  An interior designer can certainly space plan just about any area, but the floor plan of the new design is only getting you half-way home.  A major part of our job [...]

Simple, subtle changes…

2021-01-13T18:14:45+00:00

A coat of paint, classic colors including the Southern traditional blue on the new bead board ceiling, well placed lighting, beefed up columns, shutters, new roof and a little editing of the landscaping took this cute little ranch into the 21st century.   Let us know if you have been thinking about doing something similar on the [...]

In the summertime…

2021-01-13T18:14:45+00:00

Making use of the remaining Fall pumpkin in the pantry.  This blog has been inspired three things, the colors that were surrounding me in my kitchen and in the herb garden today,  the real first day of summer and what do we really produce all of this food for - to post it to Pinterest??  You don't [...]

That looks so much like my house!

2021-01-13T18:14:45+00:00

10 months of weekly discipleship meetings with three wonderful ladies just wrapped up.   To say thank you, each one received the only thing I knew how to give that I could make (and not end up in a crafting disaster).   As a designer, there's this expectation - thanks HGTV - that we're crafty.  I tried [...]

This is the second in a series on Reflections Interior Design's blog to feature an emerging designer.   Kimberly Schmunk is a recent graduate of James Madison University's Interior Design department and is now working as a designer for firms in Richmond, Va, including mine.   In our new 'modern economy' young graduates have to be so [...]

Bought a fixer upper!

2021-01-13T18:14:46+00:00

Some of what was gutted   Very often interior designers love to create drama with demolition.  This would be the case in every instance except perhaps, having to live around or in the mess at the same time as many of our clients do during projects.  Therefore, when one gets a wild notion to want [...]

About Switching

2021-01-13T18:14:46+00:00

Welcome to Wordpress! For someone who does 'change' for others for a livelihood and a passion, when it comes to changing something for myself in cyberspace I think I would rather live without a working kitchen for a year. For 2 years my well loved yet well worn Flash website needed to come into the [...]
